Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) secured a Rs 1,251 crore (excluding taxes) contract from the Ministry of Defence for supply of Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES) to the Indian Army. Disclosed via regulatory filing on May 5, 2026.
What Is GBMES?
A fully indigenous system designed by Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), Hyderabad and manufactured by BEL. Key capabilities:
- Detects, classifies and locates all types of enemy radars
- Intercepts and analyses communication signals
- Enhances battlefield situational awareness and air defence
- Architecture: 3 Receiving Stations + 1 Control Station, networked
- Minimum 72% indigenous content — procured under Buy IDDM category
